Living standards have improved significantly, leading to a noticeable rise in average life expectancy. However, many people, especially young adults, may be unintentionally shortening their lives through unhealthy daily habits.

Many people attempt to do abdominal exercises daily to quickly reach their fitness goals. However, improper abdominal workouts can reduce effectiveness and raise the risk of muscle strain.
Dr. Nguyen Trong Thuy, former doctor for the national and U-23 football teams, was quoted by Suc khoe & Doi song news site saying that the abdominal muscles, including rectus abdominis, obliques, and transversus abdominis, help stabilize the body and support everyday movements. Like other muscles, abdominal muscles do not develop during training but during the recovery period afterward. This period can last 24-48 hours, depending on personal workout intensity and individual health. If you do abdominal exercises every day without allowing enough time for muscle recovery, your body can become overloaded, leading to decreased effectiveness and a higher risk of injury. Doing abdominal workouts every day – good or bad? Many believe that performing abdominal exercises daily is possible. This is partly true because abdominal muscles are strong and can handle everyday training. However, this does not mean that high-intensity workouts every day are effective. Studies indicate that daily intense workouts without sufficient rest can reduce effectiveness due to incomplete muscle recovery, delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), and injury. Another common mistake is the belief that doing abdominal exercises regularly can quickly burn belly fat. In reality, fat burning depends on energy balance rather than focusing solely on abdominal workouts. Abdominal exercise intensity According to Dr. Nguyen Trong Thuy, to ensure abdominal muscle development, practitioners should do abdominal exercises 2-4 times a week; there should be 2-4 reps per session, focusing on flexion, rotation, and stability; resting time between sessions should be 24 hours for moderate-intensity training and 48 hours for high-intensity training. Nevertheless, the quality of a training session matters more than how often it occurs. An effective abdominal exercise should have enough intensity, proper technique, and steady progress. Nutrition and recovery for six-pack abs Dr. Thuy highlighted the important role of nutrition and recovery. Abdominal muscles become visible when your body fat percentage is low, typically below 15% for men and 20-22% for women. Therefore, if you perform abdominal exercises daily without managing your diet, the results will still be limited. Ensure sufficient protein intake (1.6-2.2 grams per kilogram of body weight daily) for muscle recovery; regulate your calorie intake to reduce fat; sleep 7-9 hours each night to optimize hormone production and recovery; and incorporate stretching, massage, or light exercises to enhance effectiveness. Doing abdominal exercises every day is not necessarily beneficial; it can even be counterproductive if you lack understanding of muscle physiology and recovery. Effectiveness comes from the right exercises (rather than many exercises), adequate rest, and proper nutrition. Therefore, you should do abdominal workouts wisely by reducing frequency, focusing on quality, and listening to your body’s signals. This approach is sustainable and helps you achieve strong, six-pack abs.
