HCMC - Vietnam's population has surpassed 100 million people, marking a demographic milestone for the Southeast Asian nation even as it faces declining birth rates and a rapidly aging population.

HCMC – A magnitude-3.4 earthquake hit Kon Plong District, Kon Tum Province, this morning, May 6, with a focal depth of around 10 kilometers, the Institute of Geophysics said.
In response to a string of earthquakes hitting this Central Highlands province, the provincial government yesterday asked the relevant agencies, Dak Drinh Hydropower JSC and Vinh Son-Song Hinh Hydropower JSC, to monitor and take measures to cope with the quakes in Kon Plong. They were also asked to regularly provide local residents with guidelines on coping with earthquakes. Besides, they must announce the inspection and study results linked to the impact of the earthquakes, so the grassroots-level authorities and local people can proactively take preventive measures. The authorities also required the Song Hinh-Vinh Son Hydropower Company to quickly install three more earthquake monitoring stations to team up with the three existing stations set up by the Institute of Geophysics, as well as to help finance the operation of six stations at the Thuong Kon Tum hydropower project area. The Dak Drinh Hydropower Company was urged to install two new stations and grant funding to operate two stations at the Dak Drinh hydropower project area to stay connected with the six stations mentioned above.
