Living standards have improved significantly, leading to a noticeable rise in average life expectancy. However, many people, especially young adults, may be unintentionally shortening their lives through unhealthy daily habits.

A woman who has been devoting over 10 years to developing the model of spa using traditional Oriental therapies.
Huynh Thi Kim Ngoc, 43, is the manager of Bio Beauty Spa on Nguyen Van Luong Street in District 6, HCMC. With a nice smile and a seductive voice, Ngoc talks about the reason why she made up her mind to pursue her passion for beautifying other women through Oriental therapies. Prior to working at the spa, Ngoc studied Chinese language at a pedagogical university and then worked at a company after graduation. In 2003, she began to learn the activities of a spa and gradually fell in love with this job. Later, she decided to quit the company where she was working and started to work at Bio Beauty Spa until now. According to Ngoc, one of initial difficulties facing the operation of a spa is how to lure customers. Many are of the opinion that they visit a spa in order to make themselves more beautiful, whereas traditional Oriental medicine or therapy is for elderly people. “I have to explain the benefits of Oriental medicine and Oriental therapies to my clients,” she says. “These methods will help them be healthy and prevent diseases. They have seen their health improved day after day, so they introduce the spa and its services to their friends and relatives.” When customers want to undergo remedies for their feet, legs, knees, stomach, arms, hands, back, shoulder, neck or head, Ngoc’s spa always offers suitable therapy packages for their illnesses and their health. “As for general pain, the pain will be relieved after two to three remedy sessions,” says Ngoc. “Regarding fatigue due to minor stress, the tiredness will disappear after the very first treatment session.” Given her experience from many years doing her job, Ngoc often gave useful advice to the guests visiting the spa, making them as naturally pretty as possible without any risk. She also showed them how to take care of themselves and live a healthy life. “I am lucky to have very cooperative customers,” Ngoc says. “Many of them have changed their lifestyle and thus have no longer suffered from muscle, bone or joint diseases. They become prettier and healthier.” Aside from acting as the spa manager, Ngoc is also a lecturer of the healthcare and beauty care faculty of the FPT Polytechnic College in HCMC. Despite being busy with her business and teaching, she still takes time to look after her family. She makes use of the therapies for her clients to help all her family members have better health. Talking about the future plans, Ngoc says Bio Beauty Spa will conduct traditional Oriental therapies for guests, who want to undergo beauty care but are unable to take time to visit the spa, right at their homes. In addition, she also has plans to open workshops on Oriental medicine and therapies to help customers have better understanding.
