HCMC – Vietnam’s daily new Covid cases have continued the downward trend for the ninth straight day, with 108,979 fresh cases reported this evening, March 25, including 108,957 locally-infected cases, plunging 11,035 cases against yesterday.

The domestic cases were detected in all localities in the country but the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai. The source of transmission of over 83,400 cases remains unknown. Hanoi again reported the highest number of cases, at 10,803, followed by Phu Tho and Nghe An with 4,555 and 4,023 cases, respectively. Yen Bai, Daklak, Bac Giang, Lao Cai, and Vinh Phuc reported around 3,200-4,000 cases each. Besides, Thai Binh, Thai Nguyen, Quang Binh were among the 13 localities that had over 2,000 cases each. In the day, the health authorities of Hoa Binh, Bac Giang, and Vinh Phuc in the northern region registered to add a total number of 52,522 cases detected earlier to the national Covid monitoring system. The country also reported 51 more Covid deaths on the same day, raising its Covid death toll to 42,196. Overall, in the fourth wave of infections, Vietnam has reported nearly 8.7 million cases, including around five million recoveries. In related news, USAID and UNICEF in Vietnam donated US$1 million worth of medical supplies to aid the Covid vaccination drive in Vietnam. The handover ceremony took place this afternoon at the headquarters of the Health Ministry. Addressing the event, Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health, expressed his gratitude to the people of the U.S., USAID, and UNICEF for their timely support to the health sector of Vietnam. After receiving the donation, the Health Ministry allocated facial masks to Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Ha Tinh, Hanoi, and the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Also, it distributed 250 patient monitors to some major hospitals and the health authorities of Hanoi, Phu Tho, and Hai Duong. Further, the ministry this afternoon also received 200 patient monitors and 100 electric injection pumps donated by Israel, with a total value of over US$250,000.
