HCMC - Vietnam's population has surpassed 100 million people, marking a demographic milestone for the Southeast Asian nation even as it faces declining birth rates and a rapidly aging population.

HCMC – An accident, which occurred on Cho Chua Bridge across the Giang River in Nghe An Province’s Thanh Chuong District on October 4, killed five people.
At 8.00 p.m. last night, a car driven by Nguyen The Tuan and carrying two other passengers, collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. After the collision, the motorbike remained on the bridge while the seven-seater car fell into the Giang River, claiming all the five lives—the two car passengers and the driver and the pillion passenger and rider of the bike, VietnamPlus news site reported. The deceased comprised Nguyen The Tuan, Le Dinh Anh, Le Dinh Quyet, Dao Van Nam and Hoang Anh Tuan, aged between 26 and 47, who live in Thanh Chuong District. Traffic police officers and competent forces immediately searched for and rescued the victims after the incident, according to the provincial traffic police division. Thanh Chuong District police cooperated with the traffic police division and the provincial police department to fish out the vehicle and the bodies of the victims and preserve the scene of the accident for a deeper investigation. The preliminary cause of the deadly incident indicated that the driver of the car, Nguyen The Tuan, failed to maintain a reasonable speed, leading to the accident. The Ministry of Public Security has directed the traffic police and other competent agencies of Nghe An Province to launch an investigation into the deadly accident.
