HCMC - Vietnam's population has surpassed 100 million people, marking a demographic milestone for the Southeast Asian nation even as it faces declining birth rates and a rapidly aging population.

HCMC – Pham Thi Kim Dung, 55, former deputy director at the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Ha Giang Province, has been prosecuted and detained for her alleged involvement in the Viet A Covid-19 test kit price gouging case.
The provincial police yesterday, February 3, also pressed the same charges against Hoang Thi Phuong, 45, an accountant at Ha Giang CDC, and Bui Van Tuyen, 38, vice director at the Ha Giang Pharmaceutical Company. The local media reported that the trio was accused of violating bidding regulations and causing losses of billions of dong to the State budget while purchasing Covid test kits from Viet A Technology Corporation. The local police earlier launched legal proceedings against three others at the Ha Giang CDC, comprising the center’s director Nguyen Tran Tuan, head of the finance division To Minh Hue, and head of the testing division Phan Thi Nga for allegedly receiving bribes in the Viet A case. The police later filed additional charges against them for allegedly violating bidding violations that caused serious consequences.
