HCMC - Vietnam's population has surpassed 100 million people, marking a demographic milestone for the Southeast Asian nation even as it faces declining birth rates and a rapidly aging population.

HCMC – The HCMC government is planning to hold a dialogue with the households located on 4.3 hectares of land outside the approved boundaries of the Thu Thiem New Urban Area project in District 2 between November 25 and 30.
At a news briefing on November 3, Ha Phuoc Thang, head of the HCMC government office, said the city’s leaders would meet residents in five quarters of Binh An, Binh Khanh and An Khanh wards, the local media reported. The city government will work with the Government Inspectorate to consult the Government on the official time for the dialogue and inform the residents accordingly. Thang said the municipal Party Committee had approved a resolution on the completion of the project by 2030. The city will continue removing obstacles and mobilizing resources to develop the project as a regional and international financial hub and a highly innovative and interactive urban area in the east of the city. The municipal Party Committee had also set a target of completing the compensation and resettlement work by June 2021. In addition, the city will develop infrastructure in the resettlement areas to serve residents affected by the project and offer them support policies. According to Thang, on December 31 at the latest, the city will hand over land for the development of the resettlement area. Earlier, three land lots with a total area of nearly 20,000 square meters in the seventh functional area inside the project’s boundaries and an adjacent 38.4-hectare land lot had been taken to develop a resettlement area for households located on 4.3 hectares of land outside the approved boundaries of the project. These land lots will be divided into 198 smaller lots to develop four-floor semi-detached houses. On September 9, a representative of the HCMC Inspectorate said the meeting with Thu Thiem residents would be presided over by the Government Inspectorate. The city had completed preparations for the meeting. However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the meeting has yet to be held.
