HCMC – LuxGroup plans to invest about US$38 million, equivalent to VND1 trillion, to develop a fleet of boutique cruise vessels under the Amiral Cruises brand, seeking to expand premium "slow travel" offerings on the Saigon River in downtown HCMC.

The project aims to capitalize on the river's cultural and historical heritage while offering personalized services to premium customers. Under the first phase, the company will deploy the 35-seat Amiral Explorers speedboats and a 99-passenger boutique cruise vessel operating from Bach Dang Wharf. Day trips will connect downtown HCMC with the Cu Chi Tunnels. In 2027 and 2028, the company plans to launch a 50-cabin overnight cruise ship offering one- to three-night itineraries linking HCMC with Can Gio, Vung Tau, the Mekong Delta and Cambodia. The network is expected to later expand to coastal routes serving Con Dao Island. The investment comes as HCMC seeks to diversify its river-based tourism offerings. The city has developed more than 60 waterway routes, with premium products such as Saigon Princess, Bonsai Cruise and Elite of Saigon combining transportation, dining and nighttime entertainment along the river. The project reflects growing interest in higher-end river tourism experiences. In recent years, activity on the Saigon River has largely centered on short excursions and floating restaurants around Bach Dang Wharf. By focusing on small vessels and personalized services, the new cruise fleet aims to attract international visitors seeking cultural and historical experiences. The Saigon River is increasingly viewed as a tourism corridor linking attractions such as the Cu Chi Tunnels, the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve, the Mekong Delta and southern coastal destinations. Industry observers say private investment in luxury cruises, combined with the city's efforts to expand its nighttime economy, could strengthen HCMC's position as a leading river tourism destination in Southeast Asia.
