HCMC – Temperatures in 25 localities in the north were below 10 degrees Celsius this morning, February 21, with the temperature at the peak of the Mau Son Mountain in Lang Son Province hitting minus one degree Celsius.

The northern region experienced less rain and clearer skies. However, due to the impact of the cold spell, temperatures in many parts of the region continued to drop sharply. Data from the national weather center showed that temperatures recorded at all monitoring stations, except those in Muong Te of Lai Chau, Muong Lay of Dien Bien, and Muong La of Son La, across 25 northern provinces and cities were below 10 degrees Celsius as of 6 a.m. today. As for the Mau Son Mountain peak, which is some 1,500 meters above sea level, the temperature reached minus one degree, down 0.5 degree against yesterday. The mountain was blanketed with ice, and trees were enveloped in layers of frost. In other mountainous areas such as Pha Din in Dien Bien, Moc Chau in Son La and Dong Van in Ha Giang, temperatures also dropped by 0.5-1 degrees against yesterday morning, at two Celsius degrees. In deltas and coastal areas, Cuc Phuong in Ninh Binh, Mong Cai in Quang Ninh and Phu Lien in Haiphong recorded the lowest temperatures at six degrees. Five monitoring stations in the capital city of Hanoi reported the temperature at about eight degrees Celsius. Central localities from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue this morning were also impacted by the cold spell, with temperatures reaching 8-14 degrees Celsius.
