HCMC – Several provinces in Central Vietnam from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri are forecast to experience extreme hot weather today, July 9, with temperatures reaching as high as 40 degrees Celsius.

The localities from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen are expected to face peak temperatures today due to hot low-pressure areas in the west of the country and the Foehn effect, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorology Forecasting. Besides this, low humidity of 40%-55% is forecast to sweep across Central Vietnam, Thanh Nien Online reported. The severe weather is predicted to extend for a few days in the central region. Meanwhile, Hanoi City is also facing high temperatures ranging from 37 to 39 degrees Celsius. The scorching heat is expected to pose a high risk of fires in residential areas due to high power consumption. Apart from this, it may also increase the risk of forest fires. People should take precautions to safeguard their health as prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to dehydration, exhaustion and heat strokes. As for the mountainous Northern region, the convergence zone of winds at 5,000 meters will continue to appear in the region, resulting in scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorology Forecasting.
