HCMC – The UK has launched a new Green Finance Facility to help Vietnam attract private investment into its clean energy sector by sharing British expertise, Minister for the Indo-Pacific Seema Malhotra announced during her visit to Hanoi this week.

The initiative aims to support the development of Vietnam's clean energy industry and create opportunities for UK businesses, investors, and innovators to participate in major projects, particularly in offshore wind and sustainable infrastructure. Malhotra unveiled the facility as part of a broader push to deepen cooperation on the energy transition during the ASEAN Future Forum on June 10. The program builds on the UK's existing support for Vietnam through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), reflecting what the British government described as its approach to promoting long-term, sustainable development through investment and technical cooperation. The minister also highlighted the ASEAN-UK Green Transition Fund, a five-year program designed to help ASEAN countries diversify their energy supplies and accelerate the shift toward cleaner energy sources. Beyond energy cooperation, Malhotra met Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung to advance priorities under the UK-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including green growth, migration, and education. The visit coincided with the fifth anniversary of the UK's status as an ASEAN Dialogue Partner. According to the UK government, trade between the UK and ASEAN increased by 17.4% in 2025 as both sides sought to expand reciprocal market access, including through agreements such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
