HCMC – Vietnamese and Russian authorities have coordinated to repatriate 340 Vietnamese citizens from Moscow on May 12 and 13 on Vietnam Airlines flights.
Vietnam’s national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, has strictly adopted protective measures against Covid-19 during these flights to protect the citizens’ health and prevent the spread of the coronavirus. All the passengers underwent health checks before being sent to quarantine centers on arrival at Van Don International Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh. They included minor students, elderly people, pregnant women, stranded tourists and others facing difficult circumstances, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted in a statement today, May 13. Amid Russia’s nationwide lockdown due to Covid-19, the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia instructed Vietnamese citizens to follow the necessary procedures and teamed up with the Russian side to create favorable conditions for them to return home. Earlier, on May 12, a number of Russian visitors were flown home on a Vietnam Airlines flight to Russia. The ministries of Foreign Affairs and Transport, Vietnamese agencies and representative bodies at home and abroad and local carriers will run more repatriation flights to bring Vietnamese nationals home based on the development of the pandemic and the country’s quarantine capacity. As of this morning, Russia remains the third most-infected country after the United States and Spain, with over 232,000 Covid-19 infections and 2,116 deaths.
