HCMC – Vietnam’s completely-built-up (CBU) car imports skyrocketed by 86% in August, or over 4,000 units, from the figure seen in July, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Data from the department indicated that the country imported over 8,800 CBU cars of all kinds worth US$202 million last month, mainly from Thailand, Indonesia and China, while around US$108 million was spent on 4,800 cars in July, Phap Luat Online reported. The import of CBU cars from Thailand last month leapt by 100% against July, at over 4,700. CBU automobiles with fewer than nine seats were imported the most in August, with over 6,100 units valued at some US$127 million, accounting for over 69% of the total car imports, followed by trucks with some 2,200 units worth US$56 million imported, up a whopping 167% in volume and 176% in value against the previous month.
