The traffic accidents during the four-day holiday left 116 people dead and 128 others injured, falling 25 percent and 37 percent year on year, respectively.
Despite a sharp decrease in traffic accidents, fatalities remained high, the department said.
Many serious crashes stemmed from driver negligence, particularly failing to keep safe distances and speeding, especially among commercial drivers.
During the holiday, police handled over 38,000 traffic violations, including nearly 7,000 alcohol-related cases and about 9,850 speeding violations.
Authorities deployed full forces to ensure safety and security at parades and ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2), while preventing congestion, illegal street racing, and public disorder.
