Traffic restrictions in Ho Chi Minh City ahead of reunification anniversary

Traffic police in Ho Chi Minh City have issued a notice urging residents to avoid driving into designated central areas on the evenings of April 19 and 26, as the city is preparing for a series of events marking the 50th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and Reunification Day (April 30).

To ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow, a number of roads in the heart of the city will be closed from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on April 19 and 26.

These closures support festivities including fireworks, drone performances, and artistic displays.

The restricted streets include:

  • Le Loi (from Pasteur Street to Dong Khoi Street)
  • Nguyen Hue (from Le Thanh Ton to Ton Duc Thang)
  • Dong Khoi (from Mac Thi Buoi to Ton Duc Thang)
  • Ton Duc Thang (from Nguyen Sieu to Khanh Hoi Bridge)
  • Vo Van Kiet (from Ho Tung Mau to Khanh Hoi Tunnel)
  • Ngo Van Nam (from Nguyen Sieu to Ton Duc Thang)
  • Nguyen Sieu (from Ngo Van Nam to Ton Duc Thang)
  • Nguyen Tat Thanh (from Hoang Dieu to Khanh Hoi Bridge)
  • Ham Nghi (from Ho Tung Mau to Ton Duc Thang)
  • Hai Trieu (from Ho Tung Mau to Nguyen Hue)
  • Nguyen Thiep (from Dong Khoi to Nguyen Hue)
  • Huynh Thuc Khang (from Ho Tung Mau to Nguyen Hue)
  • Ton That Thiep (from Ho Tung Mau to Nguyen Hue)
  • Ngo Duc Ke (from Dong Khoi to Ho Tung Mau)
  • Mac Thi Buoi (from Dong Khoi to Nguyen Hue)
  • Hai Ba Trung (from Dong Du to Me Linh Roundabout)
  • Ba Son Bridge, Khanh Hoi Bridge

In addition, all streets surrounding Me Linh Roundabout will be closed.

Commuters can take the following alternative routes:

  • From Binh Thanh District to District 4: Nguyen Huu Canh Street → Ton Duc Thang Street → Nguyen Du Street → Cach Mang Thang Tam Street → Nguyen Thi Nghia Street → Nguyen Thai Hoc Street → Ong Lanh Bridge → Hoang Dieu Street → Nguyen Tat Thanh Street.
  • From District 4 to Binh Thanh District: Nguyen Tat Thanh Street → Hoang Dieu Street → Ong Lanh Bridge → Nguyen Thai Hoc Street → Nguyen Thi Nghia Street → Cach Mang Thang Tam Street → Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street → Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street.
  • From Thu Duc City to Districts 3 and 5: Vo Nguyen Giap Street → Dien Bien Phu Street → Dinh Tien Hoang Street → Vo Thi Sau Street → Ba Thang Hai → Le Hong Phong Street.
  • From Districts 3 and 5 to Thu Duc City: Le Hong Phong Street → Dien Bien Phu Street → Vo Nguyen Giap Street.

Traffic restrictions for 3D Mapping shows

Additional restrictions apply for the 3D Mapping light shows taking place on April 19, 26, 29, and 30, also from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Affected roads include Le Thanh Ton Street (from Dong Khoi Street to Pasteur Street) and Nguyen Hue Street (from Le Loi Street to Le Thanh Ton Street).

Alternative routes during these times include:

From Dong Khoi Street to Le Thanh Ton Street: Dong Khoi Street → Lam Son Roundabout → Hai Ba Trung Street → Nguyen Du Street → Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street → Le Thanh Ton Street.

From Hai Ba Trung Street to Le Thanh Ton Street: Hai Ba Trung Street → Le Thanh Ton Street → Dong Khoi Street → Lam Son Roundabout → Hai Ba Trung Street → Nguyen Du Street → Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street → Le Thanh Ton Street.

Business access during restrictions

Vehicles belonging to businesses, restaurants, and hotels near Me Linh Roundabout will only be allowed to exit toward the roundabout, not enter Dong Khoi Street, especially once the area is sealed for event preparation.

Additional restrictions

Traffic police will also ban parking and public gatherings for fireworks viewing on the following bridges, including Thu Thiem, Binh Loi, Binh Trieu, Mong, Calmette, Ong Lanh, Hang Xanh Overpass, Go Dua Overpass, Phu My Bridge, Nguyen Huu Canh Overpass, Thanh Da Bridge, Saigon Bridge, and Rach Chiec Bridge.

Residents are urged to follow instructions, slow down near restricted areas, and comply with officers and traffic signals.

Traffic police will monitor the actual traffic situation and adjust controls as necessary to minimize disruption to daily life.
