Tropical depression makes landfall in Vietnam’s Quang Ninh-Hai Phong

The center of the tropical depression was on the Quang Ninh-Hai Phong mainland at 7:00 am, with maximum sustained winds of 39-49 kph and gusts up to 74 kph.

The system was traveling north-northwest at around 15 kph.

Wind speeds recorded at several stations included 49 kph with gusts up to 88 kph at Quang Ha in Quang Ninh, 61 kph with gusts up to 74 kph at Bach Long Vi in Hai Phong, 49 kph with gusts up to 74 kph at Co To in Quang Ninh, and 49 kph at Cua Ong in Quang Ninh.

The tropical depression is forecast to move further inland over Lang Son Province, northern Vietnam before weakening into a low-pressure zone along the Vietnam-China border late on Tuesday.

Due to its impact, the Gulf of Tonkin, including Vietnam’s Bach Long Vi, Cat Hai, Co To, and Van Don Special Zones, will possibly experience thunderstorms, winds of 39-49 kph with gusts up to 74 kph, and waves 2-3.5 meters high on Tuesday, making the waters rough and dangerous for boats.

Onshore, coastal areas of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong could also see strong winds of 39-49 kph with gusts up to 74 kph the same day.

Moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected across northeastern provinces and the north-central province of Thanh Hoa throughout Tuesday, with precipitation of 40-70 mm and localized rainfall above 150 mm.
