Da Nang’s population currently stands at about more than three million, after a merger with former Quang Nam Province in July 2025 under a nationwide administrative overhaul.
The plan projects an urban population of about four million and a resident population of around 4.9 million, with urban residential land estimated at 28,000-44,000 hectares.
Authorities aim to develop Da Nang into a major national growth hub and a regional center for logistics, maritime economy, and services, while promoting green urban development and climate resilience.

The planning process will assess the city’s role within ASEAN and central Vietnam, including links with nearby localities such as Hue and Quang Ngai, and its position on the East-West Economic Corridor.
Officials said priorities include improving regional connectivity and developing multi-modal transport, including links to the North-South expressway and planned high-speed railway.
The plan also outlines development corridors along the coast and key economic zones, including connections between Da Nang, Hoi An, Tam Ky, and Chu Lai, as well as major port systems.

Authorities will review existing urban and functional plans, including those for Chu Lai Open Economic Zone and Da Nang Hi-Tech Park.
The approval paves the way for drafting a comprehensive master plan for the expanded Da Nang following the merger with former Quang Nam Province, which would make it one of Vietnam’s largest centrally governed cities.
