The department has issued guidance outlining the circumstances in which taxpayers may face exit suspensions and the procedures for lifting the restrictions.
Payments can be made through electronic tax mobile app eTax Mobile or the tax authority’s Public Service Portal, reported Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper.
Once the payment has been recorded and the remaining tax debt falls below the applicable threshold, the exit suspension can be lifted within some three to five minutes, according to the department’s guidance.
Taxpayers are advised to proactively check their tax obligations, settle outstanding debts and complete the required procedures to avoid disruptions to their travel plans.
Under the guidance, individuals engaged in business activities and household business owners, including those whose businesses are operating, temporarily suspended or awaiting dissolution, may face exit suspensions if their outstanding tax debts reach VND50 million (US$1,930) or more and have been overdue for at least 120 days.
For legal representatives and beneficial owners of enterprises, cooperatives and cooperative unions, the applicable threshold is VND500 million ($19,310) or more in outstanding tax debts overdue for at least 120 days.
Thirty days before issuing a temporary exit ban notice, taxmen will send a notification to the taxpayer’s electronic tax transaction account and publish the information on the tax sector’s website.
If taxpayers fail to fulfil their obligations within this period and reduce their outstanding tax debts below the prescribed thresholds, the tax authorities will issue a notice of exit suspension.
To have the restriction lifted, taxpayers must pay their outstanding taxes until the remaining debt falls below VND50 million for individuals engaged in business activities and household business owners, or below VND500 million for enterprises, cooperatives and cooperative unions.
