Vietnam set to welcome new Chinese mini electric car

Zhejiang Haotao Technology Co., Ltd., based in Zhejiang, China has submitted an industrial design registration for a compact electric vehicle, planning to debut the model in the Vietnamese market, according to records from the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam.

The application identifies Guande Li as the designer of the model.

A comparison of the technical drawings included in the filing shows that the vehicle’s design matches the TMT Nano S05, Vietnam’s unreleased urban electric car.

While the similarity is striking, it remains unclear whether there is any direct connection between the Chinese company and TMT Motors.

TMT Motors had previously announced that the Nano S05 is a two-seat electric vehicle developed by the Vietnamese automaker using the engineering platform of the European Silence S04.

The company stated that the vehicle had been modified to improve durability and performance in tropical climates.

The Chinese manufacturer may have followed a similar development approach.

The Nano S05 is expected to be priced from VND148 million (US$5,620) and is scheduled for launch in the third quarter of this year.

The Nano S05 measures 2,280 mm in length, 1,290 mm in width, and 1,590 mm in height, making it significantly smaller than the VinFast VF 3, which measures 3,190 mm long, 1,679 mm wide, and 1,622 mm high.

The compact electric car rides on 13-inch wheels and features LED headlights integrated with daytime running lights.

A short front overhang and large windshield are designed to enhance visibility, particularly in narrow streets and alleyways.

The vehicle has two side doors and a practical rear-opening cargo door.

Inside, the cabin adopts a minimalist layout designed for two occupants.

A five-inch color display provides key driving information, including battery status, speed, and drive mode selection.

Although the car does not feature a central infotainment screen, it comes equipped with USB charging ports, a smartphone holder, power windows, and standard air conditioning.

The rear storage area offers sufficient space for everyday personal items.

The Nano S05’s energy storage system supports charging from a standard 220V household power supply as well as the CCS2 charging standard.

Buyers will be able to choose between two battery configurations.

The fixed-battery version offers a driving range of some 120 kilometers on a full charge.

Meanwhile, the removable-battery variant provides a range of between 75 and 150 kilometers and allows the battery pack to be detached in just 15 seconds for convenient indoor charging.
