Police in Thai Nguyen Province announced on Thursday that Luong Van Vu, director of The Vinh Plywood Co. Ltd., had been charged with allegedly organizing for another person to stay illegally in Vietnam.
On August 26, the province’s immigration management division, in coordination with Binh Thanh Commune Police, discovered a Bangladeshi national named Miah Shek Md Helal staying and working at The Vinh Plywood without valid residency documents.
The immigration authorities worked with relevant agencies to verify the case, collect evidence, and hand it over to the provincial security investigation agency for further action.
According to the evidence collected, Vu had arranged for the Bangladeshi national to work and live at the company’s production facility from July 27, despite knowing that Helal did not have valid residency documents in Vietnam.
On September 22, provincial police fined Helal VND35 million (US$1,300) for staying in Vietnam for more than one year without authorization from the competent authorities.
A day later, the immigration management division took Helal to a temporary accommodation facility while completing procedures for his deportation in accordance with regulations.
The case remains under investigation.
Provincial police warned businesses and production facilities that they must check foreign workers’ residency and employment documents and declare their temporary residence as required.
If they discover that a foreign national does not have valid residency documents, they should promptly notify police and must not arrange employment or accommodation for the person or conceal the violation.
