Vietnam’s Da Nang cracks down on foreigner residence violations, fines $26,500

Authorities in Da Nang City, central Vietnam, have launched a crackdown on violations involving the residence and activities of foreigners, inspecting 781 accommodation facilities and imposing total fines of nearly US$26,500, the Da Nang Department of Public Security said on Monday.

The inspections have been conducted by the department’s Immigration Office in conjunction with local police and other relevant agencies, focusing on areas and accommodation facilities with large numbers of foreigners staying there.

As a result, inspectors found 34 lodging facilities violating regulations on temporary residence declarations for foreigners and also detected 33 foreigners who violated the law.

Authorities imposed total fines of VND689 million ($26,460) on the violators.

The inspections were aimed at proactively monitoring the situation, detecting violations at an early stage and taking timely action, according to the Immigration Office.

Alongside the inspections and enforcement, authorities have requested accommodation facilities to strictly comply with regulations on declaring the temporary residence of foreigners while providing them with relevant guidance.

The office said it will continue reviewing and stepping up inspections in the coming period, with a focus on promptly detecting and strictly handling violations of regulations in the immigration sector.
