Vietnamese man caught stealing foreign tourist’s bag in Nha Trang

Colonel Dao Xuan Truong, police chief of Nha Trang Ward in Khanh Hoa Province, confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that officers detained Le Hung Cuong, 46, on Tuesday while he was attempting to steal a bag belonging to a Ukrainian visitor.

At around 10:40 am, a patrol team noticed Cuong riding a motorbike suspiciously along Tran Phu Beach.

They followed him until he spotted a red fabric crossbody bag left on a parked motorbike.

The bag belonged to Le Serhii, 41, who was swimming in the sea at the time.

Cuong quickly grabbed the bag and hid it under his shirt.

As he opened it to search for valuables, police and nearby residents intervened and caught him red-handed.

Inside the bag, officers found an iPhone 11 Pro and AirPods 2.

Later that day, police invited Serhii and witnesses to the station to complete procedures and return the stolen property.

Authorities are preparing charges against Cuong under Vietnamese law.

In mid-April, police arrested three suspects accused of staging scenes to steal from visitors on the Nha Trang beach.
