On Monday morning, despite downpours and unfavorable weather conditions on Phu Quoc Island, a medical team at Sun Serenia Hospital worked urgently to prepare equipment, medical supplies, and referral plans.

Doctors and healthcare workers coordinated efforts to provide intensive treatment while ensuring the safest possible referral of the critically injured tourist to Cho Ray Hospital.

The patient is the final injured tourist who remains hospitalized.

Dr. Nguyen Quang Thang, director of Sun Serenia Hospital, said the patient was admitted in critical condition with multiple injuries, including severe lung damage caused by drowning, chest trauma resulting in multiple rib fractures, and coronary artery injuries.

Doctors from Cho Ray Hospital, Kien Giang General Hospital, and Sun Serenia Hospital conducted a medical consultation and decided to perform coronary intervention to improve the patient’s chances of recovery.

The medical team is closely monitoring every change in the patient’s condition and applying intensive resuscitation measures in the hope that the tourist can overcome the critical stage.

“After the intervention, doctors will assess the extent of brain injuries and monitor the patient’s stability," said Dr. Tran Thanh Linh, head of the Emergency and Intensive Care Department at Cho Ray Hospital.

“We are mobilizing all available resources to transport the patient to Cho Ray Hospital for more comprehensive care."

A speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists capsized off An Giang Province's Phu Quoc Special Zone on Saturday afternoon, killing 15 people.

The Phu Quoc administration mobilized military, police, and civilian rescue forces for rescue and search operations immediately after receiving reports of the accident.

In response, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung ordered an urgent investigation into the deadly incident the same day.

The Ministry of Construction was instructed to inspect waterway transport safety in the accident area and other locations with similar conditions, strengthen oversight of passenger boat operations, and review compliance with safety regulations covering vessels, lifesaving equipment, and operators.
