Vietnam’s Hue cracks down on mobile karaoke loudspeakers

Hue City in central Vietnam is working to crack down on mobile karaoke amplifiers.

The Office of the municipal People's Committee said on Tuesday that the administration had sent a new directive to relevant departments, districts and towns, calling for stricter inspections and management of mobile karaoke activities.

According to the committee, spontaneous musical gatherings using high-powered sound amplifiers have become commonplace in residential areas.

Loud karaoke singing not only violates urban order and environmental standards, but also stirs frustration among residents who are forced to endure the excessive noise.

Despite earlier directives from city leaders aimed at controlling these disturbances, implementation in some districts has been inconsistent and largely ineffective.

In response, the city has tasked the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, in collaboration with police and other relevant agencies, with forming inspection teams to monitor and enforce compliance with the city’s regulations.

The administration reiterated that the use of sound equipment exceeding legal noise thresholds constitutes a legal violation.

Offenders shall face penalties under the government’s Decree 45/2022 on environmental protection and Decree 144/2021 on public order, the prevention of social evils, and related issues.
