Vietnam's Khanh Hoa launches chatbot to support int'l tourists

The system, developed by Khanh Hoa Police, is available in five languages — Vietnamese, English, Chinese, Korean and Russian — and can be accessed by scanning a QR code at airports, hotels and tourist attractions.

Tourists can use the system directly through a web browser to access essential information, legal guidance and safety tips, as well as quickly connect with authorities to report incidents or request assistance in cases such as lost property, lost passports or accidents.

When an international tourist reports an incident, the system collects basic information, images and GPS location data and automatically forwards the information to the nearest competent police unit for handling.

Through the chatbot, international tourists can also submit reports of suspected crimes and other violations of Vietnamese law, request assistance in emergencies, and access information they need during their stay in the province.

The chatbot also provides 50 safety tips and a legal guidance library covering temporary residence registration, traffic regulations and property protection, helping international tourists understand and comply with Vietnamese laws during their stay.

The system can automatically receive and analyze temporary residence declaration data from the Ministry of Public Security’s shared software, helping detect unusual patterns such as interrupted stays, repeated short-term stays, or duplicate temporary residence declarations across different locations.

The analysis results are presented through a three-level alert system — green (safe), yellow (suspicious) and red (highly suspicious) — enabling authorities to quickly identify cases requiring priority inspection and verification.

Khanh Hoa Police began rolling out the legal and safety assistance chatbot on September 2.

On the morning of September 15, the provincial police held a conference to introduce the chatbot system to more than 300 accommodation establishments and travel companies across the province, according to the portal of the provincial police.

With the number of tourists, particularly international visitors, continuing to grow, Khanh Hoa faces new requirements in ensuring that the province remains a safe, friendly, civilized and responsible destination, the conference heard.

The rollout of the chatbot is intended not only to support digital transformation but also to improve the management of foreign nationals and maintain security and public order in the province.

Representatives of participating travel companies and accommodation establishments signed commitments to work with the provincial police to expand the chatbot system's availability to international tourists.

Just over one week after its launch, the system had recorded 2,879 logins and received and handled more than 10 requests for assistance from international tourists.

At the conference, representatives of travel companies and accommodation establishments also received training on personal data protection regulations and ways to improve coordination in managing foreign nationals.

Khanh Hoa is one of Vietnam's major international tourism hubs. In January-August 2026, the province welcomed more than 18 million tourist arrivals, including around 6.3 million international arrivals.

Total tourist arrivals increased by nearly 40 percent from the same period in 2025, while international arrivals rose by nearly 70 percent.
