Vietnam’s new PM Le Minh Hung determined to deal with long-stalled projects, simplify procedures

Vietnam’s law-making National Assembly on Tuesday afternoon passed a resolution electing Hung, a Politburo member, Party Central Committee secretary, and then-head of the Party Central Committee's Organization Commission, as the country’s prime minister for the 2026-31 term.

The cabinet meeting marked the first gathering following the formal appointment of the new prime minister, deputy prime ministers, and ministers for the 2026-31 term.

At the meeting, Hung emphasized the need for swift and decisive action to remove bottlenecks and bring these projects back into operation, particularly as Vietnam seeks to maintain momentum toward ambitious double-digit growth targets.

The government leader directed coordination among ministries and local authorities to accelerate solutions.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang was tasked with finalizing a report detailing progress to date and proposing further measures to resolve remaining obstacles.

Also, he assigned the Ministry of Justice to lead a comprehensive review aimed at easing regulatory burdens on citizens and enterprises, a move expected to improve the business environment and stimulate investment.

Besides, the prime minister called for the prompt revision of the government’s working regulations to ensure they align with Party guidelines and state laws while promoting greater efficiency within the administrative apparatus.

In addition, he urged the swift consolidation of the standing body for the government steering committee on science and technology development, innovation, digital transformation, and the implementation of Project 06 on developing resident data, electronic identification, and authentication applications.

These organizational adjustments are expected to be submitted for government leadership review in the coming week.

The meeting also reviewed the government’s action program for implementing national socio-economic development plans, public finance strategies, and medium-term public investment for the 2026-30 period.
