Major General Tao Duc Thang, chairman and CEO of Viettel, said on Tuesday that construction of a landing station for the Asia Link Cable (ALC) will begin in the third quarter in Ngu Hanh Son Ward.

The ALC will be Vietnam’s sixth international undersea cable system, with a total capacity of 18,000 Gbps, connecting to several East Asian countries.

Thang also said Viettel will start work in the first quarter of 2026 on a 14-megawatt data center in Hoa Khanh Industrial Park.

The facility will be built to Uptime Tier 3 standards and will be the largest of its kind in central Vietnam, supporting the region’s digital transformation.

Earlier on Tuesday, Viettel launched the construction of the Viettel Da Nang Building on the eastern bank of the Han River.

The complex, designed in the shape of the letter 'V' for Viettel, will house core technology research, product testing, data operations, and office space for hundreds of engineers and specialists.

Viettel said the facility will focus on research and development in key areas such as telecommunications, information technology, logistics, aerospace, electronics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cloud computing.

It is also intended to serve as an open ecosystem to support collaboration, innovation, and talent development in the region.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Da Nang People’s Committee chairman Luong Nguyen Minh Triet said the project marks a significant step in the city’s push to become a regional high-tech hub.

Triet said Da Nang aims to transform into an international financial center with free trade zones and modern logistics infrastructure.

“Viettel’s projects will play a key role in the city’s long-term development,” he said.

He added that the new building could serve as a space for domestic and international partners to visit, collaborate, and experience digital technologies, helping promote smart governance, digital finance, and investment in the city.
