The line will start in the area around Ben Thanh Market in Ben Thanh Ward and end at a 39-hectare site adjoining the Can Gio coastal-reclamation tourism urban area in Can Gio Commune.
It will pass through Ben Thanh, Khanh Hoi, Xom Chieu, Tan Thuan and Tan My wards, as well as Nha Be, Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong and Can Gio communes.
The project will span about 54 kilometers and use double tracks, the standard 1,435-mm gauge and an electrified system, according to the design.
An underground section about 3.3 kilometers long will run from Ben Thanh Station (Km 0+000) to around Km 3+173, while the remaining section, from around Km 3+173 to the terminus, will run on viaducts.
Phase one will include Ben Thanh and Can Gio stations, a depot and an operations control center (OCC).
Can Gio Station, the depot and the OCC will be located in Can Gio Commune.
The company aims to complete the project in December 2029.
