The commune’s police agency on Monday confirmed officers are looking into the case involving T.H.L.D., age 4, a resident of the Hai Phuc neighborhood.
According to her father, T.V.L., 34, the incident occurred around 7:00 pm on Sunday at the seaside square, a popular gathering place for families and children.
While the girl was playing with other kids, a large yellow-and-white dog suddenly lunged at her and bit her in the face.
Bystanders rushed in to pull the dog away.
The attack left the child with deep facial lacerations and a broken tooth, her family said.
She was taken to Ba Ria General Hospital for emergency treatment, where doctors stitched multiple wounds on her face.
She was then transferred to the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases for rabies prophylaxis, followed by Children’s Hospital 1 for treatment of injuries to her eyelid caused by the dog’s claws.
Her father said she remains under close monitoring and will require multiple follow-up treatments.
The father noted the square is a busy play area for children, raising concerns about safety if the dog continues to roam freely.
Her family filed a report with local authorities and requested them to strengthen management of free-roaming dogs to prevent similar incidents.
The father also posted photos online to help identify the dog.
As of now, information about the dog or its owner remains unknown.
