-- Vietnamese and Lao leaders met in Vientiane on Thursday, highlighting the significance of Party General Secretary To Lam’s visit on the same day and reaffirming commitments to strengthen bilateral cooperation across politics, economics, and legislative affairs.

-- Party chief To Lam and a high-level Vietnamese delegation on Friday departed Vientiane for a state visit to Cambodia at the invitation of King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Society

-- A powerful cold front is forecast to hit northern Vietnam around Saturday, bringing severe cold conditions, with mountainous areas facing the risk of frost and even snow, according to the national weather agency.

-- Police in Gia Lai Province confirmed on Thursday that they have arrested suspects in connection with the armed robbery at Vietcombank’s Tra Ba branch in Hoi Phu Ward on January 19.

Ho Chi Minh City

-- Ho Chi Minh City police on Thursday conducted a pilot test of unmanned aerial vehicles at the Saigon Hi-Tech Park, aiming to study their application to crime prevention, security management, and operational response across the city.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City administration has approved a nearly-VND96-billion (US$3.7 million) investment to renovate the outpatient and emergency departments of Gia Dinh People’s Hospital, with a view to improving healthcare services for residents in the city and neighboring provinces.

Economy

-- The Airports Corporation of Vietnam, the operator of the country's civilian airports, reported more than VND3.8 trillion ($147 million) in bad debt in its fourth-quarter 2025 financial statement, with overdue receivables largely from struggling domestic airlines including Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines, and Vietravel Airlines.

-- Vietnam and Laos have agreed to establish a Vietnam University in Laos, aiming to train high-quality human resources tailored to Laos’ development needs, as part of Party chief To Lam’s state visit to Vientiane on Thursday, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training.

-- The education authority in Gia Lai Province has issued a disciplinary warning to an elementary school English-language teacher after she was found to have deliberately changed students’ correct test answers into wrong ones, officials said on Thursday.

Travel

-- Quang Ninh Province will waive entrance fees at the UNESCO-listed Yen Tu-Vinh Nghiem-Con Son-Kiep Bac relic and scenic complex from 2026 to 2028, a move approved by the provincial legislature to honor visitors and boost tourism after a decline in arrivals, local authorities said.
