Da Nang police officer tracks down lost phone for South Korean tourist

The Da Nang Traffic Police Division has recently received a message of thanks from A.H.J., a South Korean national, which she posted on her personal social media account after returning home from her trip to the city.

According to the division, a traffic police team was on duty near No. 3 Yen Bai Street in Hai Chau Ward on the evening of September 6 when the officers encountered the tourist, who was visibly distressed after realizing that she had left her Samsung phone in a Grab car.

She could not remember the vehicle’s license plate number.

Despite having very little information about the vehicle, and with the car continuing to move, the officers immediately set about helping her locate it.

Major Ngo Dinh Vuong used a specialized police motorcycle to take the tourist through several streets while tracking the phone’s location signal in an attempt to find the Grab vehicle.

Major Vuong told Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper on Friday that he and the tourist checked the phone’s location together and confirmed that the vehicle was still on the move.

A few minutes later, the car stopped near Man Quang Bridge, he recounted.

As such, he immediately rode his specialized motorcycle to the area, but the Grab car soon moved again, passing through several streets.

Its final stop was on a road near the sea in Son Tra Ward.

After nearly 30 minutes of following the phone’s location, Major Vuong spotted a Grab car parked by the roadside.

The search was still challenging because the foreign tourist could not remember the vehicle’s license plate number, and there was no contact number left on the car.

“I put my hand on the hood and felt that it was still warm, which showed that the car had only recently arrived,” Major Vuong said.

The tourist also confirmed that the vehicle that had carried her was silver.

Major Vuong then contacted his colleagues for assistance in identifying the vehicle and obtaining the driver’s phone number.

He eventually reached the driver and recovered the phone, which was then returned to the South Korean tourist.

“When I saw how moved she was to get her phone back, I was happy too,” Major Vuong said.

After returning to South Korea, J. expressed her sincere gratitude for the traffic police officer’s enthusiasm, kindness and wholehearted assistance in helping her recover her lost phone, according to the division.
