Police hand over 3 South Koreans wanted by Interpol at Ho Chi Minh City airport

The three suspects were identified as Wang Taesan, 36, Han Joonhee, 34, and Bang Giseong, 29.

The Interpol red notices were issued at the request of South Korean police, accusing the three of conducting online fraud targeting South Korean victims.

According to the wanted-person records, one of the suspects allegedly posed as someone who possessed sensitive videos of victims, threatening to release them unless the victims paid money.

In reality, the suspects did not possess any such videos.

In another scheme, the suspects allegedly impersonated prosecutors or government officials and called victims, instructing them to access links containing fake ‘arrest warrants’ and fabricated case documents bearing the victims’ names.

They then claimed that the victims’ bank accounts were linked to criminal activity and demanded that money be transferred to designated accounts for ‘verification.’

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Public Security said the successful arrest and handover of the three internationally wanted suspects demonstrated the proactive, responsible and effective coordination among the relevant law enforcement agencies.

The operation also contributes to strengthening international cooperation in combating crime and ensuring that internationally wanted fugitives cannot exploit Vietnam as a place to evade arrest.
