Ho Chi Minh City has continued its push toward greener public transportation by converting two more bus routes to electric operation from mid-June.

According to the Public Transport Management Center under the municipal Department of Construction, Bus Route No. 57, which connects Phuoc Binh Market and Hiep Binh High School, and Bus Route No. 41, linking Mien Tay Coach Station and An Suong Coach Station via Bon Xa Intersection, were set to officially switch to electric vehicles.

The new electric buses have a capacity of 60 passengers and are equipped with air-conditioning systems, replacing the diesel-powered vehicles previously used on the routes.

Under the plan, Route No. 57 began operating electric buses on Monday.

Covering a distance of 13.1 kilometers, the service has an average travel time of some 42 minutes and operates 130 trips per day.

Meanwhile, Route No. 41 is scheduled to transition to electric buses on Saturday.

Stretching over 22 kilometers, the route provides 144 trips daily.

The center said electric buses are considered an eco-friendly transportation solution as they produce no direct emissions during operation, reduce noise pollution, and enhance service quality for passengers.

The move represents a significant step in the city’s broader strategy to promote green transformation in public transportation.

The introduction of electric buses on Routes 57 and 41 further demonstrates Ho Chi Minh City’s commitment to developing a modern, efficient, safe, and sustainable public transport system while improving the daily commuting experience for residents.

As of June, as many as 2,432 buses had been in operation in Ho Chi Minh City.

Of these, 1,649 vehicles ran on electricity or other clean energy sources, accounting for 67.8 percent of the city’s bus fleet, while the remainder operated on diesel fuel, local media reported.

Under its roadmap for sustainable public transport development, the city aims to ensure that 100 percent of its bus fleet operates on electricity or clean energy by 2030.
