Vietnam court agrees to extradite int’l fugitive found hiding in Phu Quoc

A court in An Giang Province, southern Vietnam on Tuesday approved the extradition request for a Kyrgyz national wanted internationally, after authorities located him hiding on Phu Quoc Island.

The People’s Court of Region 2 - An Giang in the province’s Phu Quoc Special Zone said that the international fugitive was identified as Baisakov Elnar Narynbekovich.

According to authorities, Narynbekovich traveled from Ha Tien to Phu Quoc and was found hiding in Duong To Ward.

Local authorities confirmed his actions constituted illegal gambling organization under Article 322 of Vietnam’s Penal Code.

The case met all conditions under Vietnam’s 2007 Law on Mutual Legal Assistance.

During the hearing, Narynbekovich admitted his violations and signed a statement agreeing to extradition.

The court approved the extradition request and assigned the Ministry of Public Security and relevant agencies to escort and hand him over according to regulations.

According to diplomatic notes, Narynbekovich was the alleged mastermind of a high-tech crime group in Kazakhstan, operating illegal online gambling platforms and profiting on a large scale.

He faces a potential five-year prison sentence in his home country.
