Ho Chi Minh City-based AgriChain Trading and Services JSC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Chinese partner to supply up to 200,000 metric tons of Vietnamese green coffee beans to China over three years, with technology-based traceability expected to help the company meet the market's stringent requirements.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday with Hainan Dongfang Pai Investment Co., Ltd., an international trade and investment firm based in China's Hainan Province, on the sidelines of the Autumn Economic Forum 2026, scheduled for October 26–29 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Under the MoU, AgriChain will supply the coffee beans, while its Chinese partner will handle imports and distribution in China.

The agreement targets a total supply of up to 200,000 metric tons over three years, with the two sides to consider increasing the volume after an initial 12-month implementation period.

Robusta beans are expected to account for at least 70 percent of the total volume, while Arabica beans will make up no more than 30 percent.

Other varieties may be added depending on market demand and mutual agreement.

The coffee must meet Vietnam's export standards and China's import regulations. Product quality is expected to be independently inspected by organizations such as SGS and Bureau Veritas or equivalent bodies.

The two companies will also coordinate customs and trade procedures and implement origin traceability measures.

Nguyen Canh Thang, chairman of AgriChain, said China's market imposes stringent requirements on origin transparency and food safety.

He noted that Vietnam's coffee industry has increasingly adopted traceability technology, making production more transparent and enabling comprehensive management of information ranging from growing-area identification codes and production processes to transportation and supply.

"To export coffee to China, AgriChain's coffee sources must comply with relevant regulations on growing-area identification and meet the European Union Deforestation Regulation criteria for coffee," Thang said.

Proactively applying technology would help Vietnamese agricultural products gain a competitive advantage in export markets, he added.
