Traffic police in Vietnam have imposed a total administrative fine of over VND100 million (US$3,800) on a tractor-trailer driver and the vehicle owner after detecting such serious violations as overloading and driving without a valid license.

On Tuesday, officers stopped a tractor-trailer for inspection at Ma Lam Interchange on Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet Expressway in south-central Vietnam.

The vehicle was driven by N.V.M.N., a 42-year-old man from Khanh Hoa Province.

Inspection results showed that the trailer was carrying cargo exceeding the permitted load by 30-50 percent.

More seriously, the driver was found to be operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

For these violations, the driver was booked and got a fine totaling VND23 million ($874).

Meanwhile, the vehicle owner, a transport business, was fined VND80 million ($3,040).

In addition to the fines, the vehicle has been impounded for seven days, while its transport badge has been revoked for two months.
