Vietnam’s Vietlott confirms $7.7mn jackpot winner

The winning numbers were 06-07-18-41-44-50. Under Vietnam’s personal income tax regulations, the winner must pay a 10-percent tax on prize amounts exceeding VND20 million ($775).

As a result, the winner is expected to pay roughly VND20 billion ($775,000) in taxes and receive approximately VND180 billion ($7 million) after tax deductions.

Meanwhile, the Jackpot 2 prize, worth more than VND4.2 billion ($162,865), remained unclaimed and will roll over to the next draw.

The Saturday evening draw also produced 24 first-prize winners, each receiving VND40 million ($1,550); 1,818 second-prize winners, each receiving VND500,000($19); and 43,703 third-prize winners, each receiving VND50,000 ($1.9).

Vietlott said Power 6/55 is a lottery product featuring two jackpot prizes.

Players select six numbers from 01 to 55, while an additional special number is drawn to determine the Jackpot 2 winner.

Pham Ngoc Tu, Vietlott’s general director, said that after more than a decade of operations, the company has expanded nationwide through two distribution channels: more than 6,100 retail sales outlets across 34 provinces and cities, and a mobile platform with nearly five million registered accounts.

As of the end of last month, Vietlott’s cumulative revenue had reached approximately VND60 trillion ($2.3 billion).

The state-run company had paid out nearly VND33 trillion ($1.2 billion) in prizes to millions of players nationwide.

Vietlott said all lottery revenue contributes to provincial and municipal budgets, helping fund healthcare, education, climate-change adaptation, rural development, and public welfare projects.

Since its launch, the company has contributed more than VND16 trillion ($620 million) to the state budget.
