On Tuesday, Vietnam's Hue City’s Military Command announced that Team 192, under its Political Affairs Department, had recovered the remains of two Vietnamese soldiers in Ka Lum District, Sekong Province, Laos.
The search operation followed information provided by local residents working in the forest.
Team 192 surveyed an area near the Sekong River in Muong Kalum Cau village, where it discovered a shared grave containing both sets of remains buried inside a cluster bomb casing.
Items recovered with the first set of remains included two stamp ink boxes, a wristwatch, two prosthetic lower-leg tubes (one plastic and one aluminum), a rubber sandal sole, a bowl made from the wreckage of a B-52 bomber, a two-compartment plate and a stainless steel soup ladle.
The second set of remains was accompanied by a military cap, a backpack, a canteen, a women’s military belt, a rubber sandal sole and a nearly intact medical kit.
Both sets of remains have been taken to a memorial facility at the Salavan Provincial Military Command in Laos for safekeeping and commemorative rites.
Team 192 is continuing to expand the search area in coordination with local authorities and residents.
