The Government Office issued a document to the Minister of Home Affairs on Friday concerning holiday arrangements for the coming Lunar New Year (Tet), which will fall on February 6, 2027, and National Day on September 2 next year.

Under the approved plan, public-sector officials and employees will have a seven-day Lunar New Year holiday from February 4 to 10, 2027, corresponding to the 28th day of the last lunar month of the Year of the Horse through the fifth day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Goat.

The seven-day break comprises five statutory Tet holidays and two weekend days.

Public-sector employees will return to work on February 11, the sixth day of the first lunar month.

For National Day, public-sector employees will have four consecutive days off from Thursday, September 2 through Sunday, September 5, 2027.

The four-day break consists of the two statutory National Day holidays, with September 2 and 3 designated as the two days off in 2027 under the ministry’s proposal, followed by the weekend.

The ministry also proposed that public-sector employees have the day off for the coming Vietnam Culture Day (November 24) on the very same day, without swapping a working day, a proposal the deputy prime minister also approved.

The Government Office said the minister will notify administrative and public-service agencies, political organizations, socio-political organizations, businesses, and workers in accordance with regulations.

State agencies and units are required to arrange duty staff and organize work appropriately to ensure that essential tasks and services continue during the holiday periods.

The Government Office also calls on ministries, agencies, and local administrations to take specific measures to maintain and develop production and business activities, stabilize the supply of goods and services and prices, and ensure a stable labor supply and demand before, during, and after the holidays.

Vietnam currently has 12 paid public holidays and traditional holidays each year, including one day for New Year’s Day, five days for Lunar New Year, one day for the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day (the 10th day of the third lunar month), one day each for Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1), two days for National Day, and one day for Vietnam Culture Day.
