Modern systems deployed to stop UAVs from entering Vietnam’s Da Nang airport airspace

The Air Defense-Air Force Service is equipping units under Divisions 375 and 372, stationed in Da Nang City, central Vietnam, with modern systems to ensure flight safety and prevent unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from entering Da Nang International Airport’s airspace.

At a building belonging to the Missile Regiment 282 of Air Defense Division 375 on Thursday morning, a system for tracking airborne objects was put on standby to help ensure security and safety in the airspace around Da Nang International Airport.

The system consists of low-altitude radar, specialized cameras and signal reception equipment that displays data on a screen.

Senior Lieutenant Le Duy Quang of Company 10, Missile Regiment 282, said the newly received system could detect all airborne objects over Da Nang, particularly camera-equipped drones.

“When a target is detected, the radar system sends data to the camera for tracking. The system then switches to jamming mode to force the drone to land,” Quang said.

In addition to the equipment installed at the Missile Regiment 282’s command post, the Air Defense-Air Force Service has deployed anti-UAV systems to several units stationed around Da Nang to coordinate operations and strengthen the city’s airspace surveillance and protection capabilities.

On Son Tra Peninsula, the equipment was also installed and scheduled to become operational and go on standby from October 19.

Personnel from the Regiment 224 under Division 375 have quickly learned how to operate the system proficiently.

At Da Nang International Airport, units under Air Force Division 372 have also been equipped with the modern systems, alongside those under Division 375.

In addition to upgrading aerial surveillance equipment, units under Military Region 5 and the Da Nang Military Command have stepped up airspace monitoring and management.

In wards and communes within the approach and departure paths of civilian aircraft, military personnel have conducted regular patrols and used jamming devices to track and force unauthorized camera-equipped drones to land.

Several drone owners have also been summoned for questioning and fined by the authorities.

Drones illegally enter restricted airspace around Da Nang airport

During the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday, Da Nang International Airport experienced a series of incidents in which UAVs, including camera-equipped drones, illegally entered restricted airspace.

From February 17 to 24, authorities recorded six violations affecting more than 83 flights.

Several aircraft had to circle while waiting to land, delay takeoffs or divert to other airports, disrupting the travel plans of thousands of passengers.

In response, Da Nang stepped up patrols, tracked down drone operators, handled violations and installed no-fly warning signs around the airport to ensure aviation safety.
